I haven’t been able to find the origin of this picture, but it illustrates clearly where I run into trouble reading body language. The ‘simple’ emotions on the left? No prblem. The combined emotions on the right – well, I’d probably label them using the simple terms. It’s not that I don’t understand complex emotional states – I just can’t pick them, and even less could I do so while processing a conversation and the environment simultaneously.
The comments on the tumblr (where I tracked this back to) would seem to indicate that most people find this a very useful, easy to interpret, chart. This is not reassuring.
